Overview of the Panorama Klettersteig
Despite its short distance and modest elevation gain, the Panorama Klettersteig packs a hell of a punch. It is a great half-day outing in the Karwendel Mountain Range. This via ferrata route is located in the Seefeld Ski Resort in Austria’s Tyrol region. It climbs to the summit of Seefelder Spitze (2221 m / 7287 ft). The Panorama via ferrata is good for intermediate scramblers, with mostly B- and C-difficulty level.
Throughout the scramble, you have fantastic views over the entire Seefelder Plateau, Mieminger Plateau, and the Mieminger Mountain Range with the seemingly lone-standing Hohe Munde. Further into the distance, you can even spot Zugspitze – Germany’s highest peak, which stands right on the border with Austria.

Important info about the Panorama Klettersteig in Seefeld
Because of its relatively low altitude, the Panorama via ferrata in Seefeld is already accessible at the end of May. That’s also when the mountain railway to Rosshütte Station starts running after the winter break. Because of its west-facing exposure, the route stays in the shade for most of the morning, which is great on those hot summer days.

Getting there
To get to the trailhead of the Panorama Klettersteig, you will need to take the Rosshütte Alpine Railway, which is 1 kilometre away from downtown Seefeld and its train station.
Seefeld is only a 30-minute drive from Innsbruck, the nearest big city and Tyrol’s capital. Munich, Germany, is approximately 2 hours away. Seefeld is also connected by rail and lies on the S6 line, which runs between Innsbruck and Garmisch-Partenkirchen at regular intervals.
By bus
The nearest bus stop to the Rosshütte Alpine Railway is also called Rosshütte. You can check for bus connections and purchase bus tickets with the help of the VVT (Verkehrsverbund Tirol) app.
By car
There is a big paid parking lot right near the Rosshütte Alpine Railway. You have to pay for parking, but you will receive a refund when you show your receipt when purchasing your Railway ticket.
TIP: If you are staying near the centre of Seefeld, you can also simply walk to the Rosshütte Railway. It will take ca. 15 minutes to reach it on foot.
Stages of the via ferrata Seefelder Panorama
Approach:
- Distance: 1.7 km / 1 mi
- Elevation gain: 220 m / 722 ft
- Time required: 45 minutes
From the top of the Rosshütte Alpine station, follow the signs for Panorama Klettersteig. The sign says 30 minutes for the approach, but we needed 45. The approach hike is not too demanding and traverses beneath the western slope of the Seefelder Spitze toward the triangular Reither Spitze.
TIP: You can also bike to the top of the Rosshütte station and skip using and paying for the railway.
Via Ferrata:
- Distance: 0.5 km / 0.3 mi
- Elevation gain: 200 m / 656 ft
- Time required: 45-60 minutes
The cables on the Panorama Klettersteig stretch only for 450 meters. The hardest part of this via ferrata is right at the start. There are plenty of points along the route where you can take a rest and enjoy the views.
TIP: If you decide the route is too difficult, there is an early escape path around halfway through the via ferrata.
Descent:
- Distance: 2.3 km / 1.4 mi
- Elevation loss: 420 m / 1380 ft
- Time required: 1-1.5 hours
After reaching the summit of Seefelder Spitze, pause for a few moments to see the Panorama of the Karwendel Nature Park. The descent follows the ridgeline until Seefelderjoch (saddle), then drops down to Rosshütte station. Bear in mind that you will share the ridgeline with many hikers who got up here by cable car.
TIP: There is a cable car station at the top of the saddle. You can skip the last kilometre of the descent and take the cable car to Rosshütte.

Dining possibilities on the Seefelder Panorama Via Ferrata
There is a big buffet-style restaurant in the Rosshütte at the top of the Alpine Railway. There are plenty of seats inside and outside on the terrace. You can stop there for a meal and drink after you complete the Panorama Klettersteig. There are no other possibilities directly en route, so make sure to pack enough snacks and water to last you until the end.
